Every Cellie Kit is based in science. First, we learn what others have done in the past that has helped kids. Next, we ask medical experts for ideas of how they help their patients and families. Then we go to kids and families to get even more ideas.
We started out our research on the Cellie Coping Kit at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. We learned there that kids and parents alike love Cellie, learn new coping strategies, use the kit for fun, and that the kit helps with communication about medical conditions.
Cellie now lives at the University of Kentucky where we have conducted more research how how Cellie helps children cope. We learned that the Cellie kit for siblings can help brothers and sisters of children with medical conditions. We have started creating new versions of the kit so we can reach more kids and families.
We have had a number of additional research partners over time including Akron Children’s Hospital, Texas Tech University, DePaul University, Riley Children's Hospital, and University of Illinois Health Craniofacial Center. We are always in the search for new partners, so reach out to us if you have ideas / proposals for collaborations.
